About my methodology and pedagogy.

The classes are aimed at anyone interested in this form of expression and movement, as well as at people interested in traditional Middle Eastern music or music influenced by it. Karioca has extensive experience as a professional teacher and adopts a disciplined methodology that is also tailored to the individual growth of each student. Whether you want to discover this dance or refine your skills and grow as an artist, Karioca has many beautiful things prepared for you.

Karioca’s classes cover a wide spectrum of topics without losing the essence of this art form. Her knowledge spans the deepest forms of folklore and traditional dance as well as the latest trends and modern styles. She can thus offer all the essential and necessary training to help you lay the foundations and enrich your own dance practice.

STRUCTURE

 CLASS STRUCTURE

The classes last for an hour and a half (except for initiation) and are structured as follows

WARM-UP

20 minutes warm-up: We usually do the same technique exercises (adjusted to each level) that have a dual purpose: warming up the muscles and developing a routine and body memory to perform movements naturally.

Technique and musicality

30 minutes to delve into technique and learn new sequences with what is already known, as well as explanation and application of Arab rhythms, instruments, and musical structures.

Choreography of the moment

40 minutes for the choreography of the moment. Rehearse what has already been learned and progress a little more each day. Each year, one or two haflas are celebrated where students can perform and showcase what they have learned, only if they wish.

*Initiation classes are 1 hour long. The classes are divided into warm-up, technique, and simple sequences.

ONLINE LESSONS

In these times we live in, these classes provide you with the flexibility, comfort, and security you need and deserve, as well as the ability to truly take classes with whoever benefits you the most. Write to WhatsApp or an email to arrange schedules or, in case there are groups, to inform you about them.

In-person classes

The energy and dancing together is uncomparable, and it also boosts motivation. If you prefer in-person sessions, join the face-to-face classes. Unfortunately, due to my current lifestyle, I only offer in-person classes if invited to festivals or in Egypt.

TUTORIALS

Classes alone are not enough for development. The most important thing is motivation itself, and just as we take vitamin supplements for our diet, tutorials supplement our education. They address topics in a more specific or in-depth way and also welcome non-regular students. Stay tuned because there will also be some free tutorials coming soon. Follow me on my social media. I post mini-tutorials and interesting shorts about the history and culture of Egypt there.

workshops

Intensive sessions lasting between 2 or 3 hours focusing on a specific topic are available. These can be conducted online. If you want to learn more about my offerings, visit the WORKSHOPS page.

STAGE

Haflas and events for students

HAFLAS AND EVENTS FOR STUDENTS

Haflas, which means «party» in Arabic, are events organized especially to give students the opportunity to dance on stage and perform for the public. Being on stage is something that is also practiced and is very necessary if you want to take your dance to the next level. Normally, two haflas are held each year, one in summer and one in winter, but in recent years I have led a very nomadic life. However, it is a very important part of my teaching methods and I am looking forward to organizing them again. Participation is not mandatory.

I have been dancing for over 30 years, and of course, I have tried many teachers. Karioca is not only a great dancer but also an excellent teacher, who gets very involved with each student and always corrects quickly and effectively. For me, it's a stroke of luck to have found her.
